Masterprogramme Biological Sciences

General Information

The Master's programme in Biological Sciences is a two-year programme and consists of four tracks:

  • Ecology and Evolution
  • General Biology
  • Green Life Sciences
  • Limnology and Oceanography

Ecology and Evolution

Sustaining natural biodiversity and protecting the environment is impossible without extensive knowledge of ecology and evolution. The Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) offers a state-of-the-art Master's programme in Ecology and Evolution. The aim of the programme is to promote understanding of

  • the relationships between living organisms
  • the extinction and evolution of species
  • the functioning of ecosystems
  • how organisms live, interact and disperse on earth

Green Life Sciences

The Green Life Sciences study programme gives you the opportunity to combine training in the theoretical and practical aspects of chemical ecology, ecogenomics, biotechnology, plant breeding, phytopathology, cell biology, biochemistry and population biology. This enables students to develop an integrated view of the functioning of plants.

Limnology and oceanography

The Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) multidisciplinary Master's track in Limnology and Oceanography is devoted to the study of the biology, chemistry and physics of aquatic ecosystems. It is geared towards gaining a better understanding of the world's aquatic resources and working toward their protection. This programme offers an advanced curriculum, with a dual focus on freshwater ecosystems (limnology) and marine ecosystems (oceanography). The Limnology and Oceanography programme provides a challenging educational programme for students interested in the aquatic sciences, and offers career prospects in the scientific arena and social others.
