Why join the council?

If you have ideas about the direction of the UvA, a one-year term on the student council might be for you. As part of the council, you are an important partner for the university's board. You discuss topics such as student welfare, sustainability, and diversity, as well as more education-related issues such as examination and the binding study advice (BSA). Student councils have advisory and approval rights, giving them real influence over the university.

Moreover, council work isn't for nothing! You receive a monthly grant of up to 1167 euros, you build a good network within the UvA, and it's the perfect opportunity to gain work experience and improve your CV.

In this video series, 7 former council members explain why they chose to join the student council and how they experienced their council work.

How do you nominate yourself?

At both central and faculty levels, various parties are active that take different positions on the themes that student councils deal with. If you agree with the positions of an existing party, you can join that party. They then determine who will be on their candidate lists and in what order. If you cannot or do not fully agree with the positions of an existing party, you can establish a new party yourself.
