The UvA Student Charter (Studentenstatuut) describes the rights and obligations of students on the one hand, and of the University of Amsterdam on the other hand.

Chapter 1 contains a PDF file of the first chapter of the Charter as well as an English and Dutch PDF file of the complete Charter.

Please note: the English translation of the Student Charter is provided for information purposes only. In the event of a difference of interpretation, the original Dutch version of the document is binding.

Chapter 1 - Introduction

Chapter 2 - Access and registration

Students must meet entry requirements in order to access UvA study programmes.

Chapter 4 - Rules of conduct

The rules of conduct relate not only to actual use of
UvA property, but also to appropriate interaction with fellow students and UvA employees.

Chapter 5 - Teaching and assessment

Information about teaching and assessment, such as Bachelor's and Master's programmes, majors, minors, and the Interdisciplinary Honours programme.

Chapter 6 - Student financial assistance

The UvA may offer you financial assistance in a number of cases: if you fall behind with your studies due to special circumstances, if you carry out certain administrative activities and if you temporarily study abroad.

Chapter 7 - Student services

In this chapter you will find information about UvA and Faculty student services, and disabilities, handicaps and chronic disease.

Chapter 8 - Administration and student participation

Information about administration, student participation, faculty participation, and programme committees.

Chapter 9 - Complaints, objections and appeals

Students are subject to a wide range of rules, regulations and laws. You may feel that you have been adversely affected in some way by a decision taken on the basis of such regulations, or that you have not been treated properly by the UvA.
