UvA wireless general

What is UvA wireless?

UvA wireless offers UvA students secure wireless access to the UvA network from various locations (hotspots). You can access the UvA-net with your own laptop or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) with a wireless Ethernet adapter.

The attachment 'List of Hostpot at the UvA' below gives an up-to-date overview of where the hotspots have been installed. This list is expanded upon regularly.

UvA students

Students can make use of the network called 'UvA' via UvAwireless. This network is available in lecture and study rooms.

A laptop with an up-to-date network card is needed for this network. More technical details can be found via the link below.

Guest users and ‘eduroam’

You can use UvA wireless to access the eduroam network. This also gives you the option to login with your UvAnetID at other institutions connected to Surfnet's 'eduroam'. Students of other universities and universities of applied sciences can use the login for their own institution to access eduroam. They can log in with their 'eduroam' accounts within UvA buildings when they are in reach of a hotspot. Their institution has to, of course, be participating in Surfnet's 'eduroam'.

Support

The central UvAwireless website provides all the information you will need to configure your UvA wireless connection. The site also contains extensive information about security requirements. If you encounter any problems, please send an email using the link below. Don't forget to specify your UvA-net ID or we will not be able to answer your question(s).

You can also approach the front desks of the study centres for help in installing and configuring the SecureW2 client software.

A number of frequently asked questions are also answered on the central site (in Dutch)
