What is the UvA Card?

The new Faculty of Science building was designed to have an open character. In order to maintain this special quality, the UvA has opted to introduce an access system based around a personalised card: the UvA Card.

For whom is the UvA Card intended?

The UvA Card comes in four varieties: cards for employees, students, external employees such as suppliers and cleaners, and a special card for visitors. This webpage features all the information you need on the UvA Card for students.

How does the UvA Card work?

The ground floor and first floor are freely accessible during normal opening hours. In order to reach the upper floors, you will need to access the lifts or stairwells by means of your UvA Card. The office and laboratory doors can only be opened or closed by means of a UvA Card. Your UvA Card will only grant access to the office spaces or laboratories for which you have been authorised. When in the secure zones - all spaces from the second floor and up - you must visibly wear your UvA Card at all times.
