Academic year 2011-2012

The academic year is divided into two semesters, each lasting 20 weeks. Semester 1 classes begin in the first week of September. Semester 2 classes begin in the first week of February. At the Faculty of Law, the semesters are futher divided into two teaching periods. These begin in week 1 and week 9 of each semester.

Lecture periode

First semester: 5 September  - 16 December 2011. Exams in October, December 2011 and January 2012.

Second semester: 31 January - 27 May 2011. Exams in March and May-June-July 2011

Alternative exam period for American and Canadian exchange students

If you are an American or Canadian exchange student, you may find that the organisation of the academic year at your home institution diverges from the Dutch academic year. This could mean that the second semester at your home institution will begin before our first semester exam period has concluded.

To remedy this problem, the Amsterdam Law School offers a special exam schedule ONLY to exchange students from universities in the US and Canada that have an exchange agreement with the Universiteit van Amsterdam. These students should contact our coordinator if they need to sit in on the exams at an earlier date than the date set down in the normal schedule.

All other participants are obliged to sit in on their exams at the dates set in the normal exam schedules.
