Cum Laude

The following three specific requirements apply to the master's exam in order to receive the designation 'cum laude':

  • The weighted average mark of all of the exam components (60, 90 or 120 credits or as is determined in the Programme and Examination Guidelines for the respective master's programme) is higher than 8.0. Results that are not given a mark are not included in the calculation of the weighted average mark. The weighted average is calculated on the basis of one decimal behind the comma.
  • An examinee has been exempted for a maximum of 10 of the 60 credits (15 of the 90 and 20 of the 120 credits respectively).
  • The mark for the master's thesis is at least 8,5.

The Board of Examiners can, in exceptional cases, grant an examinee who does not fulfil an exam's specific requirements the designation 'cum laude'.
