Student Information System (SIS)
In 2011 the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will be introducing a new Student Information System (SIS) to improve student and staff insight into study progress. SIS will replace a group of systems that have become technically outdated, including Studieweb, the lecture and exam registration system CTIS (College- en TentamenInschrijfSysteem) and the ISIS system for staff.
SIS offers greater technical stability than Studieweb, as well as a wider range of functionalities than the current systems. As a student, you can use SIS not only to register for classes and exams but also to:
- consult your study plan;
- check what you still need to do to earn your diploma;
- request your diploma;
- submit petitions and check their status;
- check whether you meet the relevant entry requirements for each module for which you wish to register.
The introduction of SIS will also provide new options for UvA staff, such as improved capabilities for study advisers and desk staff to assist students through access to SIS.
On 31 May the Executive Board will decide whether to launch SIS in June 2011 or later in the year. The introduction of SIS may cause some inconvenience. However, the UvA is working hard to keep any disruptions to a minimum.
SaNS Expertise Centre
The UvA is part of the SaNS Alliance (New Student Information System Alliance), whose other members include the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences (HvA), Leiden University and Tilburg University. The SIS system was jointly purchased by these four universities and will be further developed within SaNS.
